Policies
This document summarizes the policies and procedures to guide the Outreach Program volunteers in their activities within the larger community outside the temple
- The mission of the Community Outreach Program is to enable economically disadvantaged youth to reach their full potential, assist local community to overcome adversity, advance cultural diversity within the local community, and broaden the perception of the Hindu community
- Towards that mission, the program has 4 strategic pillars:
- Education for the Youth
- Overcome Adversity in the Local Community
- Build Relationships with Local Organizations
- Organize Local Volunteering Events
- Each pillar will have one leader and one alternate leader to cover for the leader’s absence, who volunteer for it and are approved by the consent of other volunteers. Likewise, people from the temple community volunteer to serve in one or more of the pillar groups
- The Outreach Program is managed by Paresh Pattani, with Sunil Shah serving as the alternate when Paresh is traveling.
- The Program Manager will report on the status of the various pillar activities to the HTW Executive Committee at least once a quarter, and more often as needed to seek direction or guidance
- A WhatsApp group for the Outreach Program Manager and Pillar Leaders is used to keep everyone abreast of developments and plans across the pillars. An annual plan for the program will be drawn up and posted in a Google Drive location for everyone to contribute to and update. The latest plan is posted in the HTW Outreach Folder (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1KA4l_hyH-4Vvnic5CdUkmvMyc2L5ivXq?usp=drive_link)
- Each Pillar Leader is expected to meet with their team once a month to review pillar activities and plan new ones. Pillar Leaders will submit and seek approval of the Program Manager for new outreach activities. Where there is a budgetary impact, the Program Manager will seek time on the Executive Committee meeting agenda to get approval.
- Pillar Leaders are also responsible for updating the annual plan document with their latest activities and plans. This should happen at least once a quarter to support the program manager’s report out to the Executive Committee
- The Outreach Program has an external email account localcommunityevents@myhtw.net, which is publicized on the main HTW website. At least two people from the Outreach program will be designated to monitor this account and respond to any requests
- Outreach Program events and activities will be publicized through the HTW website as well as the HTW Community email broadcasts. Flyers may also be posted on the bulletin board at the HTW Temple reception area, and in the new Community Hall
